Carbon Mitigation Solution in Response to Proposed CAFE Standards Rollback
MALIBU, CA — December 16, 2025 — PlanetWEST, a leader in advanced environmental technology, today announced its readiness to deploy proprietary carbon capture technology to counteract the projected environmental impact of the Trump Administration’s proposed revisions to the U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards. The company’s innovative MIDAC capture system offers a path to support continued consumer choice in vehicle ownership while actively mitigating the anticipated increase in greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions.
The proposed CAFE rule, announced in late 2025 and slated for public hearings in early 2026, seeks a substantial rollback of Obama-era fuel economy requirements. Specifically, the proposal reduces the required annual fuel economy improvement rate to from a 2022 baseline, significantly lower than the prior annual increase, and lowers the fleet-wide target to approximately miles per gallon (mpg) by 2031 (down from the previous mpg target).
Anticipated Environmental Impact
The regulatory changes, which also include eliminating civil penalties for noncompliance and discontinuing the credit trading system, are projected by critics to have significant environmental consequences.
Carbon Dioxide (): Analyses estimate an additional tons of emissions annually by 2035 compared to the prior standards, with an earlier analysis of a similar proposal estimating an increase of million metric tons of per year.Nitrogen Oxides (): The revised standards could permit an estimated additional tons of smog-forming nitrogen oxides to be emitted annually.Particulate Matter (Soot): Approximately additional tons of fine particulate matter are expected to be released into the atmosphere each year.
PlanetWEST's MIDAC Solution
In light of these projected increases, PlanetWEST is poised to offer a balancing mechanism. By deploying its proprietary MIDAC (Mobile Integrated Direct Air Capture) technology across newly produced passenger vehicles and heavy-haul trucks, the company can offset the resulting rise in carbon and pollutant emissions.
"The proposed CAFE rollback presents a real-world challenge to our collective climate goals. " said Chris Catlin CEO of PlanetWEST. "Our MIDAC technology is specifically engineered to decouple emissions from economic and consumer preferences. It supports the twin objectives of vehicle affordability and environmental stewardship by allowing consumers to drive the vehicles they prefer while our technology actively removes carbon from the atmosphere. This is a balanced solution for a complex national debate."
PlanetWEST believes its MIDAC system offers manufacturers a viable, technology-driven pathway to meet the critical mandate of improving air quality and safeguarding public health for future generations, even under less stringent regulatory frameworks.
